6 Tips to Increase Milk Supply

6 Tips to increase milk supply:

  1. Rest. Sleep when your baby sleeps. That means letting the chores go undone and taking a nap instead.

  2. Drink. Every morning fill up your favorite water bottle (maybe add in a few slices of lemon) and bring it around with you during the day. If you always have water near by you are more likely to drink.

  3. Stimulation. Increase stimulation at the breast. Whether that's bringing your baby to the breast more often or adding in an additional pumping session. Breastmilk is supply and demand, the more out the more in.

  4. Eat. During pregnancy and lactation you need 300-500 additional calories per day. Think healthy snacks you can eat one handed like bananas, apples, hard boiled eggs, nuts/seeds, string cheese ect..

  5. Skin. Hold your baby skin to skin before or after feeding. Skin to skin contact stimulates prolactin and oxytocin (milk making hormones).

  6. Help. Contact a lactation consultant. They can help you develop a care plan and provide personalized support to help you increase your supply.
